So last Sunday was our first fundraising venture out as the newly formed Greystones playground committee, the weeks in the run up to the event were to say the least hectic! As we spoke to all the summer camp business we could find on Google and the Parent Toddler groups on Facebook , lined up a running order for the day and organised refreshments we got a feel for what would be a pretty good day. We located the necessary headless ‘Child of Prague’ statues and started to feel pretty confident…until we realised we hadn’t really told too many people…Oops!
Red faces aside and a week of poster hangings and leaflets drops with committee members wearing their shoes thin trawling local housing estates dropping flyers (which were designed by the very talented Claire Wilson) and it was fingers crossed and a lot of nail biting to see if anyone would show up and if the sun would keep up its unseasonable appearance!
Sunday morning saw a bright sunny cloudless sky and a hive of activity in Éire Óg (and one of our committee members with a large bottle of bleach in the mens toilets), and the people of Greystones did not disappoint. You came in your droves and were very generous. Faces were painted, games played, animals petted, gallons of teas and coffee drank and cakes consumed. Most importantly just under €4000 was raised, what an amazing start!!!!
However none of this would have been a success without the phenomenal support we got from local businesses and clubs and it’s important that we tell you about these businesses, the reason communities work is because of the support we provide each other so please the next time you’re shopping think about supporting these businesses that were so generous in their support of us:
Éire Óg who kindly trusted us with their amazing grounds
Garden County Radio who provided the sounds, please check them out online!!

All the amazing chefs that donated their scrumptious baked goods, the tables were heaving, also the face painters, nail artists, traffic coordinators, the luggers and the picker uppers and especially to Lidl who sent down boxes of freshly baked treats
Greystones Cricket Club, Sailing Club & Tennis Club, who also gave their time & donations generously!
This was just our first outing, we do hope to run a lot more events over the summer as there is quite a way to go to hit our target! So please if you think you can help out by running a coffee morning or an event please do get in touch or pop down to one of our committee meeting, the time and place is always on Facebook!
